Strange Women in Ponds
by @danielkelly
Liner Notes
My last two #Arthurian songs have been a bit dark, hoping to lighten the mood with some Monty Python inspired #ukulele silliness.
Lyrics
C There has been several ways, G For deciding who rules, G7 C In the history of humanity, F G But women in ponds, C F Distributing swords, G C Is the best one from what I can see,
Some get their throne, Because they were born, To a king or maybe a queen, But strange women in ponds, Distributing swords, Is the best way there ever has been,
Some they win power, By violence or lies, Some buy their position with gold, But strange women in ponds, Distributing swords, Is the method that never gets old,
Some folks share the power, Collectively, In anarcho-socialist ways, But those women in ponds, Distributing swords, Deliver a structure that stays,
C G7
Excalibur, Excalibur, C Granted by lakes’ lady, F I’m crowned the king C With pointy bling, G C All Britons now serve me.

Oh! Yes, this was fun. Thanks for the smile!
Still laughing at the last verse! I agree, give me a ruler with the right sword chosen by a wise woman.
Well done. It's funny by itself and even more so for those who get the source reference. The sincere delivery is an excellent choice.
🤣🤣🤣
Hoorah!! Hoorah!! Glorious effort here. Exquisitely delivered and highly comical. Thou ticklest my ribs immensely, my Lord!!!
I live to serve! 😊
Not the first arthurian song where I hope to find pythony goodness, but the first to deliver.
Lo, and there was much rejoicing!
Thank you for some levity in this dark world.
(even if my sympathies go to the oppressed masses banding together in an anarcho-syndicalist commune...)
Good to hear from you on this platform @gavran! Thanks for listening, happy to find other Python fans.
The way you delivered that refrain, even though I knew it was coming, made me laugh out loud. An excellent summary of a system of government that maybe we ought to try again one day.
Isn't that how things still work in England? Or is it a lettuce now?
This is one of many reasons I moved to Scotland, where it is haggis and neeps.
Excellent! Good job considering the alternative methods. (and I like "I'm crowned the kind, with pointy bling."
Thanks for listening @bethdesombre, the world needs some creative thinking, as whatever we are doing now doesn't seem to be working for the masses.
supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony Nice to lighten things up - made me smile this evening here in Aus. I love the end- very entertaining all round
And now you see the violence inherit in the system!
Certainly sounds better than some electoral systems! The reference was clear, and very well delivered. The lettuce system only worked once.
