Liner Notes

I was reminded of the Lewis Carol quote from Alice in Wonderland: "'When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, 'it means just what I choose it to mean - neither more nor less."

This, however, meshed nicely in my head with the notion that words, when repeated enough time, cease to have any meaning.

Thus, it is not that "pickle" has no meaning to anyone, but the way I use the word that causes it to become made-up.

Also, pickles come in all sizes, shapes and colors. Here's what I was thinking of with the song:

Lyrics

I think you might be a pickle. I think you might be a pickle. I think you might be a pickle. Pickle, pickle, pickle, pick.

(That repeats until it degenerates in to:)

Pickle, pickle, pickle, pickle. Pickle, pickle, pickle, pickle. Pickle, pickle, pickle, pickle. Pickle, pickle, pickle, pick.

(Then it concludes with a cheery)

Pickle pickle pickle pick!

(Since "pickle" has lost all meaning, it now has all meanings. So, those spoken words roughly translate to "I hope you liked this song as much as a delicious pickled vegetable.")

I saw the slug and my brain immediately went banana slug ---> banana pepper ---> pickled pepper So now I want giardiniera. I will probably end up singing this in the aisle at the grocery store. The layered vocals are so fun! Pickle is life. Pickle is all. Pickle pickle pickle pick!

I liked it! Listened to the entire song, and for me as a self-labeled adhd (ok, and family-labeled) person, that says a lot. I found it to be soothing and fun. ;)

This is so lovely! The harmonies are gorgeous. I love the slug haha! I definitely am getting the repetition-until-no-longer-really-a-word. This is a really clever way to take on the challenge!

Nice use of harmonies - and I also concur that words can be "repurposed" as we wish... I feel I shall have no choice but to have a pickle with my sandwich this afternoon...

Lol we also call the slugs from our garden pickles (and the baby ones cornichons). Which is cute but they keep finding ways to invade my kitchen, which is less cute. It's definitely true if you say a word over and over, it loses all meaning. But it's weird how well the word worked. And the melody and harmonies / rounds gave it a folk song or shanty feel. Amazing what can be done with one word, heh. I chuckled aloud at the last cheeky line.

I like to think the answer to "why did the French decide to eat snails" was simply that their gardens were invaded one too many times. The first person to do it might have wanted to seek vengeance on the snail more than they wanted to taste it. I'm sure the same thing has been tried with slugs, though since it hasn't become fancy food anywhere they just weren't as delicious.

The round thing was luck more than anything. It worked well, but it came as a surprise to me initially.

Oh good, now I'm going to have "pickle pickle pickle" stuck in my head haha

[pic]

Yeah, that happened to me, too. Still, pickles are always good, so it's not a bad thing to have rattling around your head, right? ;)

(And it wasn't like I wanted to destroy the meaning of the word "coffee" or something.)

Ha, this is an excellent take on the prompt! Indeed, all words are made up, in the end.

Reminds me of Steve Reich. All it needs is a little phase!
