Playing to Win
Skirmish: Playing Games (@melodic)Liner Notes
#lyricsonly #skirmish I fell asleep during the skirmish but had this idea the next day — crises and games as ways to build intuition.
Lyrics
It’s when the wheels come off That you know what to do Or you’re hopelessly lost But still find your way through You stumble from crisis to crisis Defending your name What you wake up and realize is That life is a game
Life changes when the chips are down You find a way to turn it around Whatever Game you play Tell the universe that you’re all in Tell your angels that you’re playing to win Then follow What they say
Choose a game of skill Or a game of chance You could be chasing thrills Or chasing romance You could be learning to fly Or sweeping the floor But your question is how can I Get a little bit more
Life changes when the chips are down You find a way to turn it around Whatever Game you play Tell the universe that you’re all in Tell your angels that you’re playing to win Then follow What they say
It’s not just the win that you seek Or to get out of danger More that you hear when they speak The voices of angels If your life is in tatters And you hear what they say Then whenever it matters You can win every day
Life changes when the chips are down You find a way to turn it around Whatever Game you play Tell the universe that you’re all in Tell your angels that you’re playing to win Then follow What they say

I like the poetry of life being a big gamble — life is risky, and risky pays off even when you bust. Holding the loss as a lesson and letting go as you forgive yourself is a huge part of living in grace, so telling the world “This is my move, I’m all in” is living truly, because you’re always all in. The chips are always down, and your angels are there for you win or lose. Great piece
I love the mixture of “personal angels” with gambling imagery. I also really like these lines:
You could be learning to fly Or sweeping the floor But your question is how can I Get a little bit more
That feels like a common human condition, for better or worse.
Good rhythm and flow here, too.
I like the hopeful message of being able to face when things get tough even if you don't necessarily know how. My wheels came off a while ago and I've been hoping for a miracle so I can keep going -- while it doesn't solve any of my practical problems, FAWM has been an absolute blessing and has made me feel alive and hopeful for the first time in a long time. I'm not one to think of angels, but if they're listening and want to tell me how to keep going, I'm all ears! Thanks for participating :)
