Don't Listen To The Bad

Liner Notes
i wanted my first song for fawm 2026 to be a meta song. "i will never write another song with the word fawm in it" he lied to himself. well i'm one for one this fawm and i do feel like the meta references were insider baseball enough to be practical for casuals. if you are reading this just know this song is for you.

notesobviously the bridge needs to be a funky bass breakdown. probably followed by a guitar solo. maybe an instrumental solo outro. should i just take the words out?
Lyrics
[c3]
d bm g a
my future self keeps singing out of tune
you think it would be easy since i use only one key
but i don't mind as you'll soon see,
there's nothing but a big ole grin, that i wear for free
g d a bm there's a ghost sitting at the end of my bed
he keeps on whispering telling me to be sad
but white noise and sweet dreams
all tuck me into bed
g a d no i don't listen to the bad
o sing it with me, i don't listen to the bad
pancakes and orange juice make my morning proud
i just tune to open g, so i can slide em down
to all the people that'll never hear this song
i just hope i can make my mother proud
f g em a
what if this bridge had a funky break down sound
what if my bass was more than just 808
what if a song cost more than a bomb
g a d o what if people loved art tell me do you think people love art

Lee- This feels like one of those songs that wraps up a whole philosophy of self, and becomes something you sing to yourself to keep yourself going when it’s hard to remember not to listen to the bad. The song feels hard won for the singer. It makes me think of Guy Clark’s first song “Step into This House”. This song might be something that guy sang to himself in the house and on the road.
I love this! The lyrics link into my experience. Strong emotions stirring the feels. Love the hook.
I don't listen to the bad, is a damn fine lyric, and you sing it like you mean it. Love it, so I do.
hard to get that ghost to shut up but you can always drown it out with a good song
