Country Music Hates Me

by @farrister

Liner Notes

Lyrics

V1 Oh, country music why do you hate me Just leave me alone to my drinking I thought all the whiskey had switched off the thinking But now I remember when no-one would date me Oh why do you hate me?

V2 Oh, country singers why don't you like me Just when I was feeling better You come and remind me I stupidly left her When you start crooning the memories strike me Oh why don't you like me?

CH Switch on the emotions And turn them up loud It's a mirror that shows me From the inside out Embrace the memories I thought were long gone Country music may hate me But deep down I love a good country song

V3 Oh, country roadies why don't you get me Bringing heartbreakers to town Just when I'd started to turn things around You return with the singers whose lyrics won't let me Oh why don't you get me?

CH Switch on the emotions And turn them up loud It's a mirror that shows me From the inside out Embrace the memories I thought were long gone Country music may hate me But deep down I love a good country song

BR Never had trucks or ten gallon hats But did plenty of things that were dumb But when I hear banjos, campfires, and revenge I know I'm not the only one

Irresistibly catchy! I chuckled at the last line of the Chorus. So true! I think L1 and L2 of the Bridge are hilarious together. Fun song that is an obvious song-along choice at the tavern.

Well written lyrics Adam. I always enjoy that your lyrics embrace a continuous stream without repetition. From music to singers, whiskey and trucks and to ten gallon hats you engage the reade/ listener with so much country imagery. Very admirable!

Ha! That "why don't you like me/get me" line and the way you deliver it just cracks me up. Cool rhyme scheme and how it works to keep the rhythm from letting things get too predictable. And that bridge lyric is brilliant!

I like this angle -- and is it a country song, or would you contradict the lyrics with the music? Either could work! V3 is my favorite -- good rhythm to the lyrics, overall.

Edited to add: whoops! Missed the demo and read it as "lyrics only!" Too early in the morning. Listening now. :)

The lyrics flow with good energy. I especially like how you deliver the line, "Oh, why don't you get/like me" etc. Cleverly written. Nicely delivered!

I really like the forward momentum in this song - it just carries you away. It has a sea shanty kind of feel to me - something that would be fun to sing out with a lot of people. The humor is spot on and so cleverly woven throughout the song. I agree with @fabkebab on the well crafted rhyming.

What a nice amusing song! you've squeezed just about every bit of country stereotype into this! ha ha - well played!

Lots of good inner rhymes make this one flow right along. I like it. There's a lot of schlock in some country, but when it's good it's some of the best. Authentic pub song melody. Good 1st effort!

Clever rhyming in the verses - the ponit where you hit the rhymes is unexpected and interesting. Sounds like a very english singer who is exposed to country music in public - I havent lived in UK for 30 years but hopefully you dont get too much of it!!. In some ways your song style reminds me of some of the (lesser known) songs of Eric Bogle. Good song and performance!
