Liner Notes

very quick post-work write / record after a laughably shit meeting at work in which a guy proudly declared that the company was investing $1.5 billion in AI technology and then immediately revealed that he didn't really know what it was

he was dressed as "an olympic event"

this riff was taken from my voice memo archive where it was saved as "Open string plucky charmer"

#grunge #fuckmyjob #lalala

Lyrics

you're contradicting yourself and your costume won't disguise it we'll forget the silly hat, not the panic in your eyes

we saw the sweat on your brow, we heard your excuses creaking did you realise you were wrong when you heard yourself speaking?

the applause you expected, the triumph you had planned crushed under the investment in technology you don't understand

you're not buying what you're selling - you're clearly the wrong choice but you didn't realise it until you heard your own voice

they pulled the plug, they pulled the rug, and now your brain is leaking did you realise you were wrong when you heard yourself speaking?

the riff was definitely worth coming back to! i love the muffled ooh ooh oohs and lalalalas, great flavour-adders (?)

This is fabulous. Your blend of guitars really would have driven this song home regardless of the lyrical content, but that lyrical content is so much fun. "Did you realise you were wrong when you heard yourself speaking?" is a question that anybody with a corporate job has probably wanted to ask a thousand times. And I know that the fact the guy was dressed as an olympic event wasn't part of the song (outside of the allusion to a costume and a silly hat), but thanks for including it, because it's just the type of juicy detail that makes this even more enjoyable. Your vocal is also a treat in the manner of a great many UK pop, postpunk, and alternative bands. Thanks for sharing.

This is righteously furious and full of chunky riffs. Love the oooooh lalalas so much. The shift into the darker instrumental section around the minute mark works really well, the shift back into the bubblegrunge brilliance of the chorus is even better - and loads of great lines here. Also amazing that you work at a place that does olympics themed fancy dress / terrible because that sounds like my nightmare.

Energetic performance and the lyrics unfortunately feel timeless at this point whoa lol!!! The ooh la la la part totally encapsulates this techbro hype nonsense. Last verse is [chef's kiss]!

P.S. love the title, witty take on that famous bumper sticker

[pic]

That is a plucky charmer, but the rest of it really kicks some serious a$$. That's quite a welter of tasty guitars. A crunchy powerpop tour de force! (And that last line is killer)

Love the background vocals - Under 2 minutes, but still feel like a fully realized song.

Seems like this year is shaping up to be a concept album about how your job sucks, so at least it’s been good inspiration even if it’s terrible in every other respect! This is a banger, super catchy—really love that main clean picked riff, the speed and energy of it all, and those layers of “lalala” vocals.

[pic]

Love that picked guitar line in the verses! The frantic nature of it all is perfectly pitched - your anger is up front and centre but it's very relatable. Your distorted guitars sound class and those la-la BVs are very catchy indeed.

[pic]

worryingly relatable I fear I'll using the closing line in a meeting before to long. love this.

[pic]

I can hear this echoed in every workplace across the world. The anthem of bewlidered workforces in the face of misguided management. It's as sharp and punky as it very much needs to be. It's also a great tune.

[pic]

Cool track, i instantly thought of The Wombats for some reason maybe the vocals and the oh’s in rocking parts, haven’t really heard them for years, but the bass player is from my hometown and have mutual friends, so probably more what I imagine they sound like and a lack of references😅, the open string plucky riff has a bit of Marr flavour…solid lyrics rocking tune

@tomj

The song is a great side-effect of a preposterous situation. Wish they'd just give the $1.5bn to FAWM or even the mafia over AI tbh.

[pic]

As nuts as that meeting was, great FAWMing material - and you cut a very fine from that cloth. "Did you realise you were wrong when you heard yourself speaking?" Not only is this a brilliant lyric, it could also be the title for the 'how not to manage" book I would definitely buy!

[pic]

Love the vague-posting indie-rock. Unfortunately relatable (perhaps not the Olympics costume element)

dressed as "an olympic event"

$1.5 billion? Sounds like a shit show, fk that guy!

This song on the other hand is anything but - awesome lyrics and the plucky charmer riffs are bang on.

[pic]

Oh this is the "I hate my job" song. I think this might be straight in as one of my favourite Vom songs - the short & punchy grunge/pop-punk vibe works so well.

I have to ask though, how does one dress as "an olympic event"?

[pic]

I missed the start of the meeting so I'm not really sure why the whole thing was Olympic themed? But everyone had on ice hockey gloves or was carrying a fucking javelin or something, it was intensely annoying

[pic]

This sounds very much like an episode of The Office 😄

[pic]

YEAHHHHH Love that line “they pulled the plug, they pulled the rug, now your brain is leaking.” Such a fun arrangement too!!

[pic]

Awesome Liner Notes there. Glad I'm retired so I don't have to put up with nonsense anymore. Ooh, so jangly!! Yeah, I love me some poppy goodness! "Ooh lalala" lol, nice! Great tune you got here.

[pic]

I hate jobs and I hate AI and you’ve captured that feeling perfectly. Thanks for doing this V-Man! X

[pic]

Wow that was a jackhammer of a song, and so quick I had to pop it on twice. I love that arpeggio, it's almost banjo-coded. And that fuzz sound when it comes in is amazing! This is almost shoegaze, but with la la BVs. Really enjoyed this fury.

Grunge feels like the appropriate answer to absolute incompetence at work. Nice treatment and Welcome back to FAWM!
