Multifaçaded

Challenge: MADE-UP WORDSLiner Notes
The bones of this song started 20 years ago when I was in university. There was a lot of emphasis being put on preparing yourself for a "multifaceted" career, but at the time I couldn't help but feel like we were all just playing pretend, and putting on a façade, and so was much of the world. This was a letter written to my future self to keep on trying in a world where it seemed like I would fail even if I tried my best, and everything and everyone can seem like a lie, and where the people are "multifaçaded."
What a pleasure to be finally finishing this 20 year later for my upcoming album. A little different instrumentation and some real drums are to come soon.
This song is experimental in sound and form. It's different from my others in that it's a more a long poem. The music is through composed with mostly verses and extended instrumental sections that get a little longer each time, before culminating in a single and final chorus.
An interesting note is that Verse 1 and 2 function a bit like groundhog day. Waking up and doing what you're told again and again, until you sort of break free into verse 3. That's the concept anyway.

Lyrics
VERSE It's on my mind The furthest from the truth As the best intentions Always are (and always were) Best? Best at something When something is nothing And something's on the rise
VERSE2 Rise As the sun will rise Rise up with the best intentions And you'll rise With the sunrise And the best intentions On your mind
VERSE3 Ignore the truth Because it hurts Far more than telling lies Ignore the droves The never die They're seething All teary eyed And all the while You're sipping smiles But you've got it in you Never Tire
CHORUS/OUTRO Never tire Never tire Never tire Never

Right? I really wish 20 year old me had finished these songs 20 years ago. But better late than never, right?
Congrats on finishing this one, glad you didn't tire! Lots of really cool sounds here. Reminds me of being inside one's mind with the vocal echo and wavering synths. The beat draws me in and takes me on a cerebral ride. Nice work!
Very cool track! I like the mood and the way it creeps along and builds and pulls back. Sounds great sonically, too.
Getting some Billy Corgan in the vocals here, really soothing and lovely. As Yam said, the structure may be experimental, but it's hypnotic and really eases you through the whole thing. Great atmosphere, through and through.
Thank you for taking the time to listen and comment!
I meant to say such a great tempo as well. gives it a kind of splendid majesty (maestro).
I'm a huge fan of what can be done with stereo mixes so I loved the panning and movement around the lovely vocal. Bass drum with such warmth and weight. I've been trying to put more "outside" bits to melodies and especially solos and so really liked those sounds which were less related to the scale. Loved it and listened a few times.
Thank you, listening again is probably the biggest compliment someone can give a song so I appreciate that. This one will be coming out on Spotify in April please consider following me there or Bandcamp if you want to be updated :)
When the liner notes said "experimental" I was expecting something a little more challenging. This was lovely and easy to listen to. Perhaps that just means this experiment was a success. It was really nicely done.
Haha I guess maybe it's more approachable than I think? But there's few words, almost no harmonic progression (few chords), little melody, and it's more of a poem than a song I guess? I Don't know felt experimental to me! I think the experimental genre has sometimes gone way to far, and the assumption is an experiment will sound "weird" or "bad". This has been made worse by artists who have no control and push the limits AS the art, which is no longer art in my opinion but to each their own. I think of it like being in the kitchen cooking. I want to experiment with something fresh and original that I still want to eat and serve to people right? If that makes sense.
I mean, I do my own experimental songs. Sometimes they're exploring process as much as anything. They can definitely be fun and interesting... But this sort of experimental? I could see an album of this sort of experimental being able to sell. It's like it just needs to settle on a genre name. It might not be to everybody's taste, but this is cozy and introspective. That's a lot easier to market than a lot of stuff.
Thank you I appreciate that! My album is shaping up to have a few moments like this, but this one is the most sort of "iconic" to this sound, if you will.
such a lovely musical world to spend time in. love all the bits and bobs that pop in and out! i really really like your voice too! multifacaded is a really clever made up word.
I appreciate that thank you for listening!
Sipping smiles, cool word combo. This tune has a great feel, well worth the wait! Also…. Yes FAWM it up with your kid, they have so many amazing ideas inside of those little brains and hearts as you clearly know.
Thank you! I agree maybe next year I'll make an account with her. This year is all about getting this album released by April so I'm pretty hunkered down!
This sounds great, especially the vox!
Thank you for listening!
Great production on this. Love the really present ear candy over the space of the instrumentation. Vox fx are perfect!
Thank you!
damn, 20 years in the making. sick vibes!
