Four Triangles

Liner Notes
I might change the title, but I figure it's better to get it out there while it's still fresh, even if the metadata isn't solidified yet! I wrote this at work today - I was subbing in a middle school general music classroom and trying to get a specific guitar to tune to standard so a kid could use it, but two of the tuning pegs were stuck and I eventually decided to settle on a sort of open A flat thing. The full moon last night had me thinking about moon puns, and the lyric sort of tumbled out from there (as these things often do!) I've been wanting to write a companion song to Dylan's "Queen Jane Approximately" for years and the opportunity finally presented itself. #alternatetuning #guitar #indiefolk
Lyrics
When the moon is almost full of itself And the sun throws its last flag on the play And not for all the pamplemousse in Pays-de-la-Loire Could you possibly get either one to stay Come visit me and we'll sneak backstage on closing night Find out where the fireflies are hoarding all their precious light Keep up with me now, I know it's hard to keep up with me I'll try to make myself a little slower, keep up with me now I don't want to lose sight of that beautiful face of yours.
When it's all about the law of the land And the truth got lost with your old blue lunchbox I'm saving a seat for the cloud seed you used to be I'll be saving it till Mr. Plainclothes bumps me off Come fly a tin can line and crash your plane right into mine I've had worse memories and there's no one with whom I'd rather nosedive Keep up with me now, I know it's hard to keep up with me I'll try to make myself a little slower, keep up with me now I don't want to lose sight of that beautiful face of yours.
Someday soon you'll have a house in LA And you'll pay for some subscriptions you won't use And then you'll see four triangles in rapid succession That'll make you question everything you knew Come visit me and we'll walk away from fairyland With our heads held high like they're the ones who failed to understand Keep up with me now, I know it's hard to keep up with me I'll try to make myself a little slower, keep up with me now I don't want to lose sight of that beautiful face of yours.

Lovely track. Great job! 😍
You have a beautiful voice and the guitar is so pretty. Sounds so effortless.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate the kind comments!
Wow -gorgeous vocals and guitar. I really like the intricate guitar work. It provides so much to support the song by itself
Thanks so much! I usually don't write in a fingerpicking style when I use guitar, but I was listening to the James Taylor album Hourglass recently and it really made me want to write in a more rhythmically dense fashion.
Richly beautiful. This is a generous and spacious offering.
Thank you so, so much! I'm so glad you found it enriching!
I love the chord voicings that come from the tuning. Really well done!
Thanks so much! I think my favorite voicing is the one that comes from the bVII chord up the fretboard a little ways. Wish I could put tabs in with the lyrics!
This is a great recording, your voice sounds really smooth and hats off for playing in a weird tuning. The lyrics are fun, and ask more questions than they answer. Great start to FAWM-26.
I love leaving questions answered! I'm so glad that came through in the final product, thanks for your very kind feedback :)
Awesome! Reminds me of some musical theater track or scene. Great singing and I dig the chord progression.
You've successfully identified one of my major influences! I grew up listening to almost every Sondheim show, and it really bleeds through sometimes. Thanks so much for the kind thoughts and the follow!
Oh my this is so wonderful! Love the guitar tuning and your vocal take is SO naturally awesome. Really nice song!!
Thanks so much! I like my vocal take here a lot too but I'm not sure if I'm crazy about the compressor I've been using lately... I will keep tweaking it though!
There are LOTS of good lines in this, but I especially like the couplet: "Come visit me and we'll sneak backstage on closing night Find out where the fireflies are hoarding all their precious light"
Really tidy, gorgeous write, and your gentle playing and smooth vocals are perfectly paired.
Thanks! That's one of the only lines I actually revised... I think I had it as "sneak behind the veil of night" originally, but when I went back it sounded too cliché. Glad you like the revised version a lot!
The unusual tuning is such a happy accident, it’s really floaty and ethereal which is perfect with your voice. So many lines in this I love - you’re building scraps of pictures that make a whole that might be different depending on which way you look at it. Beautiful song!
thanks a bunch, I appreciate it! A very happy accident indeed!
Hi, Adam! So great to have you back! I love the quality of your vocal on this one. It's great. Your "E" sounds are particularly mesmerizing, and your pacing/delivery give me chills. Very intriguing lyric...I get something more out of it each time I listen. I love when that happens.
