Not For Sale

by @daveyboy103

Liner Notes

Love and meaning can’t be bought, and that defining ourselves through possessions ultimately empties and traps us rather than fulfils us. They contrast genuine love and self-worth with consumerism, warning that constant acquisition damages the soul and reverses control — what we own ends up owning us.

Lyrics

Love’s not afraid And love’s not for sale And love is always asking questions Are we in the past And is this love gonna last

Not for sale, not for sale you can’t buy everything Not for sale, not for sale you can’t buy everything

Show me what you own And I will tell you who you are Your destiny defined by things Spend your life acquiring lasting and desiring

Not for sale, not for sale you can’t buy everything Not for sale, not for sale you can’t buy everything

And we never have enough And we never see The damage to our souls The souls of me and you Now the things that you once owned Now they own you

Not for sale, not for sale you can’t buy everything Not for sale, not for sale you can’t buy everything Not for sale, not for sale you can’t buy everything Not for sale, not for sale you can’t buy everything

Another stellar production. This sounds like they just finished the mix at British Grove or something. Your voice is great even in the lower register and you've put it in service of some great lyrics. Really well done. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for your kind words

@cts

Wow - it started out feeling like "Lily Was Here" and then it moved into this sultry tale of caution. Dude you know your stuff. Production on this is killin' and then I was expecting you to come in with the low register. This demands another listen!

Thanks so much

Reverby sax and keys really set the stage in the intro. Vocals remind me of when Bowie used his lower register.

[pic]

commenting again to say just how good your vox are.

[pic]

i wasn't expecting that sax to slide on in, and i looooove it. feels very noir, very soundtrack, in the best way, then those vox come in and cut deep.

This immediately hooked me. It's currently a rainy cold day in Wellington NZ and this is the perfect moody soundtrack. Super impressive production as well!

wow, everything about this works. i am very impressed.

Thank you so much

This needs to be in a movie. Blade Runner meets the Crow meets the Hunger.

A compliment indeed, thank you so much

Thanks Cindy

Awesome production. Vocals sound brilliant. This really fits with the track from yesterday. Nice cohesion. I’m getting some Roxy Music vibes from this. The sax again is a great addition. A nice deep lyric as well. Great stuff

Interestingly there is only one chord in the verse and only two in the chorus. Thanks for the kind words

[pic]

Sometimes those are the best songs. Simplicity is really hard to pull off.

Stretches you a bit as you do need to provide some variation around that single chord. I particularly like the synth riff in the chorus but I noticed I forgot to add it to the final chorus' Will fix it later. Your first track absolutely rocks.
