For The Record
Liner Notes
Recently I discovered this amazing guitarist from the Netherlands, Sekko, who mixes jangly guitars with hip hop beats. I wanted to make something inspired by that vibe. The verse guitar part came together quickly, then I added a second part that ended up feeling optimistic and cheery.
I'd been sitting on a lyrical idea for the past week and used it here. The chorus had such an uplifting feel that it reminded me of the final lines from Battlestar Galactica, so I paraphrased them to fit the song.
I kept the melody simple because I'm recovering from a head cold and my voice isn't 100%. I sang softly and let the guitars do the heavy lifting.
The mix and master are all messed up. I have no idea what I'm doing. š± #ambient #guitar #pop #hiphop #atmospheric #vocals

Love this! Awesome guitar work, I really like it with the beats in the background. The vocal tracking/effects is so cool!!! Really well-written lyrics, I especially liked the second verse, feels like "truth molested" has some multiple meanings there. The gentleness in the chorus is sad and hopeful both, I like how you end on that "does it have to happen again?" Confrontational but not aggressive. Really really well done!
the chorus is so buoyant ... i love how musically you ultimately bring some daylight into the heaviness
It felt like there was nowhere else to go but major key happy.
nice. sweet guitar playing! would be interesting to hear this with more aggressive vocals/harmony.
I loved this!! It's very unique and so creative!! That new inspiration has produced a really excellent result. I think the vocals are awesome...cold or not!! I totally enjoyed my listen!! and all I have to say in the end is: More!!!!
Thank you! I think I will do another song in this vibe because it was fun and that type of guitar playing is definitely my wheelhouse.
Really cool listen! I love the guitar tone, and the synth is fantastic. I loved the lyric āfor the record I will enter opposition to their missionā -heck yeah.
I really like this style on you! Love the guitar work, huge tones. I like the brighter chorus with the melodic change and posing an excellent question. Mirrors my sentiment exactly. Great start, James!
a message wrapped well enjoyed
Yessss I love the jangle pop vibes and the mixing of the second guitar in there. All the different tracks bounce off each other so well, I would argue that you actually mixed and mastered this very beautifully! To say nothing of how well you arranged/sang the chorus, and I love the entrance of that high synth line over the second verse.
