03: The Big Cake Bake

by @frozenlonesome

Liner Notes

As mentioned in my bio, I am travelling for most of February so I started FAWM last week. So far I have created videos and will be uploading them before I leave on my trip.

A funkier track that sounded too clean so dirtied it up to accentuate the vibe of my treatment of the cartoon.

Track was created on my iPad in Korg Gadget and arranged in AuriaPro. Samples were mangled in frekvens and the completed track further broken down in Rymdigare.

All my videos are produced in LumaFusion.

Headphones recommended.

Okay, this is doing very strange things to my head but I love it! I'd love to see people's brains scanned as they listened to this, I'm sure a lot of interesting areas would light up. The vibe is very laid back, a lot of lo-fi sensibilities but the back beat has it going on. It's got a great lazy, sleazy feel. And now I'm half convinced I saw this cartoon when I was a kid but maybe the suggestion has been planted by your track! Anyway, I'll be listening on...

That’s one of my favourite reactions to my tracks. Glad you enjoyed it. The cartoon was trippy and subversive. Same studio did The New Adventures of Pinocchio which is also weird.

I could groove on this all night. It's a very sexy groove at that. Although it does find it's way to be unsettling at times.

Unsettling sexy groove. Works for me and I appreciate you listening and commenting. Much appreciated!

Ooo yeah love the vibe of the drums and swirling rhodes? Gently twisted, but with a delightful floatiness, very pleasing to the ear. Super cool how you've got it all aligned perfectly with the cartoon too. Looks/sounds like a massively fun and rewarding project to work on?

Thanks. Takes a bit of time to align the mangled samples with the video, but I think it’s worth the effort. Thanks for noticing. If having lived the experience of the theme song as a child wasn’t enough to embed it into my subconscious, working on these tracks definitely has. I’m enjoying the project and hope you’re having a great FAWM too.

Fun start and a even more enjoyable transition into the song. Truly funky and groovy giving me images of lots of polyester and dancing, but with modern touches. Psychedelic middle section was a trip and I loved the delays on the drums towards the end. This was an amazing headphone experience and I loved listening!

Thanks so much for your generous feedback. Glad you enjoyed it. It was fun to make and I appreciate you calling out the delays on the drums which I quite like too.

[pic]

Lovin the funk. That drum lick is super smooth. It's very easy to just sit back and ride the wave on this one.

[pic]

Cheers. I think it’s my favourite one so far.

Oh, now THIS is trippy. I love it. The samples give it a very "Gorilla 4 Sale" energy, but... like, blasting off into outer space. Could listen to this forever.

[pic]

Thanks for listening and commenting. Glad you enjoyed it! Checked Gorilla 4 Sale and see what you mean. 🙂

Always gotta listen to the lonesome in cans! You’re a master of the stereo field. I listen once with eyes closed and let it take me places in my Mind I didn’t even know existed then I watch the video and just appreciate your taste and choices for repurposing and Hell…upcycling might even be a word I’d use. The cartoon is wild in its own right but you elevate everything you touch. Always a pleasure to spend time with your music/art

[pic]

Thanks for your kind and generous words. It means more than you can imagine. I really appreciate you taking the time to listen carefully and immerse yourself in my soundscapes.

Nice funky vibe to this. I dig the drum groove. Lovely mellow keys. Interesting with the vocal treatment in the cartoon.

[pic]

Cheers. Glad you enjoyed it.

I dig your management of the hiss, gives the right old timey cartoon feel before it breaks in, and then funky with echoes falling over themselves! You might like the Little Stompy Delay pedal I made, the echoes go long to short plus loads of other mess around LFO options! The vocals delays here remind me of it (check me YouTube to hear it…)

[pic]

Thanks for listening and commenting. I only have a couple of pedals. I mostly run my hardware synths through iPad fx or produce entirely on the iPad. I’ll check out your YouTube cause I’m curious.

For sure, some things aren’t quite right that I have up, but can’t help but love circuits and noodling on different ways. Not sure how you would if going synthily into an iPad, but if you have an audio then perfect, Multitrack DAW on iPad, maybe an interface and mic? Through automation you could do similar to my LSD (Little Stompy Delay)

[pic]

I use a Zoom LiveTrak-12 as my audio interface and use a few different iPad DAWS, so have plenty of options. If you use an iPad, I recommend checking out LoopyPro. IMO, it’s the premier recording, looping, sequencer, daw on iOS. Soon coming for MacOS.

My iPad is the iPad 2, pretty ancient. I keep this one DAW on my phone, but really prefer doing it through the PC with Studio One
