Challenge: SEASONS CHANGELiner Notes
#challenge #political #folkrock #altcountry Do you feel the change in the weather? Literally (here in the Northeast) and perhaps metaphorically in the political arena as eyes are opened. Every movement has its growth phase, its peak, and its decline, just like a bacteria, a beloved family dog, or a human. Or a tree or glacier. Only the periodicity of the cycle varies: birth, growth, stability and decline. Inspired in part by the Strauss-Howe generational theory describing an 80+ year cycle that divides into generational phases. I read this years ago, and the authors were prophetic. Go read "The Fourth Turning is Here" by Neil Howe, if you haven't already! And thanks to FAWM for providing an excellent challenge.
Lyrics
** SEASONS CHANGE ** (c) 2026 T. Higgins/raspberry33
Verse 1: Every natural process must follow its cycle Birth, growth, and a peak in its prime Though the pace will differ by circumstance There is only one paradigm
You watch that cute kitten become a hunter Watch a stagnant pool grow algae and slime Watch the top-down oppression enraging the people Study history – this ain’t the first time
Chorus: Seasons change even if Weathermen are silenced Seasons change let’s choose peace over violence Seasons change if you can’t adapt, you might not be here next year It’s the time of the season to let hope conquer fear.
Verse 2: If you watch enough cycles, you will spot the clues You can smell the panic though they censor the news It’s like leaves turning color from yellow to brown They’re attached until winds blow them out of town
Chorus: Seasons change even when Weathermen are silenced Seasons change Let’s do this without violence Seasons change if you can’t adapt, you won’t be here next year It’s the time of the season for hope over fear.
Bridge: Cells divide, multiply, over and over Tumors hide, then suddenly explode Though the winter might feel never-ending Spring is waiting at the next crossroad (I can see it in the distance)
Instrumental Verse
Verse 3: Life has springtime and summer and glorious fall There are those who love winter best of all For they’ve been around long enough to know That seasons come round, troubles come and go
Cycles might take a minute, or one hundred years Or sometimes longer than a human lifetime If you study your history, or celestial spheres You know there’s just one paradigm.
Chorus: Seasons change though the Weathermen are silenced Seasons change It’s time for peace, not violence Seasons change if you can’t adapt, leave quietly It’s the time of the season when hope defeats fear.
From the first guitar lick, this rules. The lyrics are great and your playing is perfect. good job.
