Liner Notes

This is a busy weekend for me, not much time for songwriting and probably none for recording, but I squeezed in time at the end of the night to work on a song.

This one is definitely not finished; I tried a little improvising chords and melody, and it's not ready yet. I don't think I'll put it into rhyme, but my first thought is that it needs more alliteration of some sort and a more even rhythm.

I want the music to bring to mind the quieter sounds of nature. Maybe something will come to me in my dreams.

But here it is, a sketch of a song, finished more or less in an hour.

Lyrics

Gaea’s Cathedrals Deirdre M Murphy

There’s a lovely grove of twisted trees The sweet smell of fruit fills the air Small birds squabble for the best meals Furred beings forage on the ground There’s an old rope and plank swing And one can swing and drink nature in

There’s a quiet cove where water murmurs Minnows dart in the clear water Seashells nestle, gleaming in the sand There’s a fallen tree where the sand meets grass And flowers swaying in the breeze There one can swim or sit and drink nature in

There’s a tiny park deep in the city It’s a little way off a meandering bike trail Hills and trees keep it quiet, undisturbed Wildlife nibbles at the native plants And songbirds perch in the trees A refuge where one can drink nature in

There’s a rocky hill nestled under the mountains A steep path rises through scrappy bushes Under twisted trees and windy skies Small creatures shelter in caves and burrows And boulders rise from the bones of the land One can climb or sit, and drink nature in

There’s a place near you where the wind blows free And the blessing of Gaea lies upon the land There’s room to walk or sit or dance Whether it’s tiny garden or untamed wilderness There’s so many places to look and to listen To dance or just be, and drink nature in

I love all the imagery here! I am reading this as a storm comes down outside, it feels fitting. The "drink nature in" is a beautiful way to express the experience that, to me at least, it so hard to put into words. I think you've captured some of those elusive feelings. Really wonderful, I enjoyed reading these lyrics a lot!
