Coffee (A Distant Wife)

Liner Notes

I had fun with this one: how long must a cup of coffee last to make a difference. Thanks Bill for trusting me with your lyrics.

Lyrics

A Distant Wife

He doesn’t grind his own coffee.

He eats instant crystals

From the jar

And does not see the day

When, disengaged,

Drifting through subway tunnels

Between home stations,

He will open a utility door

And find himself

In an isolated house,

Where a distant wife pours him

A decent cup of coffee.

The stereo piano really sets the mood for Bill's lonely and dream-like lyrics! Nice collab!

Elegant, down-to-Earth symbolism for the collision of intimacy and isolation, set to a promising melody that respects the space necessary. I feel a mix of envy and admiration for how this plays.

Gorgeous song and collaboration. It immediately drew me in. I love the atmosphere here. It feels to me like a show tune and also a song from a movie, reflective, intimate and special. There is definitely magic in the air. So warm and beautiful! Love it. I felt the smell of coffee and the presence of kindness.

What @gwynjones already said. The voice + piano of @marthie is enchanting and you can always trust @billwhite51 to write lyrics "for real" (contrary to yours truly et al. ).

@billwhite51 writes such captivating, yet enigmatic words and @marthie has matched those qualities with her enchanting voice and exquisite piano playing...lovely collab!

thank you, marthie. i love the artfulness with which you place the vocal phrases throughout your lovely piano composition. and your vocals are so delicately pure . i always love collabing with you because it seems you can read my mind and then set your own mind alongside it at just the right degree.

I like it too: magic twins we are! Or twins by magic! You made my day actually. I had a very sad day marketing my sex ed program based on my masters studies.
