Skirmish: Half (@44nifty)Liner Notes
#skirmish #halfway #lyricsonly (demo later, I hope!) Zeno's Paradox is that if you travel half the distance, you must still travel half the remaining distance and so on....which can make some things seem impossible. Maybe not a FAWM sprint, but the full February always seems foreboding. Anyway, this song is more about getting older, but trying to stay positive even as the finish line seems to be an asymptote. Hard not to notice that rivers have become creeks and the road seems steeper. No demo yet, but I'm hearing this as a folk-rock tune. #collaborationswelcome - and, addendum, thanks to Bill White for delivering a wonderful collaboration (now posted)
Lyrics
HALFWAY (c) 2026 raspberry33 VERSE 1 I’ve got sand in my boots Noon sun in my eyes A long road stretches Under gathering skies Half the road lies behind with fairy tales grown cold Half lies ahead what stories wait to be told?
PRECHORUS In the middle of a trek not knowing what to expect But at least I’ve crossed some missions off my list
CHORUS I’m halfway there, halfway there With more steps to take to who knows where I’m tired, I’m worn, but getting nearer every day To the finish line It’ll be fine Because at least I’m now halfway.
VERSE 2 There were nights I nearly back-tracked When rain kept pouring down When the map was torn and useless And I was miles out of town There were lanterns in the distance A voice behind a door Saying “Rest here ‘till you’re ready to walk some more”
PRECHORUS 2 Seldom walks in the park Every mile has left its mark, But at least I’ve seen some wrong turns turn out right
CHORUS 2 I’m halfway there, halfway there Are there more steps to take, and does anyone care? I’m tired, I’m worn, but getting nearer every day To the finish line It’ll be fine Because at least I’m now halfway.
BRIDGE Wheels keep a ‘turning Rivers must flow My shoe leather’s burning with a long way still to go Time was surely wasted on paths that petered out But some wrong turns were the best parts of the route…
(instrumental verse & prechorus)
CHORUS 3: I’m halfway there, halfway there The road’s getting steeper there’s a chill in the air I’m tired, I’m worn, but getting nearer every day To the finish line It’ll be fine Because at least I’m now halfway.
OUTRO: Halfway there, the sun’s sinking low The stars getting brighter with more miles to go Creeks replace rivers peaks rise from the plain But I’m Halfway to the finish line And halfway to beginning again

folk rock is right. i read the lyrics and thought of some old folk rockers i used to know and grabbed my guitar and banged out some ideas. its really a mess, embarrassing really, but send me an email and ill send you a mp3. i think mostly it is bad but there are some good ideas if i spent some time on them. the lyrics are perfect,,but i just banged out the music in one breath. if you like the general ideas, send me an email replay and ill try to get something down before the end of the sprint. i have 2 songs of my own to finish up and i should be free for the weekend.
Bill - I'd be honored to collaborate! I'll send my email shortly. Would love to hear your approach to the lyrics.
The rhythm of travel shows exceptionally well — though in other ways the narrative could apply to a video game with all of its unknowns. Very nice statement contrasting the known and unknown.
Update: collab with Bill White coming soon. We've been back and forth on demos, and I love what I'm hearing.
