Liner Notes

For the "Many Colors" skirmish. Couldn't pass up a song about my favourite colour. At the moment this is lyrics-only, and it might stay that way, but it's late at night here, so if I add music, it'll have to wait.

Lyrics

In the beginning, Goddess let there be light. Then came the sinning and a terrible fright! All colours of the rainbow had been caref'ly designed. Goddess made 'em all so, but one was much maligned! Purples, yes, and oranges too, but you'd never guess what came after blue! For, you see, Goddess could not predict what there would be when white was licked!

Black, black, Goddess made black! Black, black, couldn't take it back! Black, black, unintentional! Black, black, black!

You see, my troubled dearie, no mistake was made at all. But Goddess had grown weary, rainbow paint had filled her pool! She didn't mean to do it, (inventing number zero), this black would be oh, such a hit! She would be a hero! Goths and leathered metalheads, emos and crust punks - black goes with greens, purples, all the reds, for formal dresses, fetishes and drunks! Black should've been the first, but instead it was the last, now the first became the worst, and black rewrote the past!

Black, black, Goddess made black! Black, black, couldn't take it back! Black, black, unintentional! Black, black, black!

She deleted the original first, the one that was definitely worst, now only mages can ever glean the truest colour only known as "clean"...

Black, black, Goddess made black! Black, black, couldn't take it back! Black, black, unintentional! Black, black, black!

Dirty, filthy, sinful black. Gorgeous, amazing, tributary black. Black, blackest black.

I also like the contrast between the poetic verses and the spunky, vehement chorus. Kind of fun to think of black being an afterthought, an accident, when it is so beloved. I'm interested to hear if this gets a demo at some point!

The harsh rhythmic abruptness of the chorus contrasts so well with the flowing, lilting verses.

First song I’ve come to this FAWM and it was a treat. Lots of cool lines here. Loved the unfolding. Nice one.
