Be on the Lookout

Skirmish: lookout -or- look out (@melodic)Liner Notes
This was written for @melodic's "Lookout" skirmish. I liked the idea of being on the lookout as meaning both vigilance/aware of danger and actively seeking something.
This is another go at taking existing lyrics and rewriting them. I want to azlyrics.com and found a black keys song I'd never heard of. I couldn't even tell you the name of the song. But based on how the leaks are structured, I could tell it was blues inspired. There was lots of repetition and rhyme.
This one take was recorded at a cozy open mic in town. It's interesting to hear all the background, noises and conversations while I'm playing.
Also forgive any mistakes or stumbling words. I'm literally writing the song as I'm performing it.
Lyrics
Be on the Lookout
Momma said, “Son, you best be on the lookout. If they get too close, you can’t get the hooks out.” Yes, I’m on the lookout for girls with their hooks out ‘Cause Momma said, “Son, you best be on the lookout”
She was standing on the corner of a downtown street With ruby lips and a cigarette between her teeth On the corner of the street I got caught in her teeth She walked up to me on the corner of the street
I wanted her hand but she took all my money She robbed my senses down to my last penny She took all my money, left not a penny I wanted her hand but she took all my money
I still find her hooks tight under my skin When I think of her touch I feel the familiar sting She hooked me in with that beautiful sting I still find her hooks under my skin

I don't think any of the original lyrics remain in the new set! I can try to find the original song
Entertaining song, and also a reminder that sometimes momma's advice ain't bad. 😉 I appreciate the spontaneity in the recording, as well. Fun!
like the sound of this song a lot! i also like the sounds of the audience in the background as part of the song. rewriting existing lyrics is an interesting process! but i think you should make note of which song the original lyrics came from as respect to the original artist and so that commenters can know which of those lyrics were the original and which were your rewrite. thanks for participating!
