One Broken Horn

Skirmish: Broken Horn (@johndrtcp)Liner Notes
This was written for @johndrtcp's skirmish, "Broken Horn" (https://fawm.org/skirmish/828). This made me think of the rhino horn trade which is leading to the extinction of the African Rhino. I did some research into how Chinese and Vietnamese use the rhino horn in their medicine. Because it's so valued, the rhino horn is used for political bartering as well.
I've been playing around with ticking already existing lyrics and using that as my template. I stumbled across an old Irish song. I wrote a new refrain and filled in the verses.
Lyrics
Broken Horn
When the last rhino dies will we finally learn The price of one broken horn?
The poacher sights the grazing rhino in the scope of his rifle He doesn’t worry about the species’ survival The poacher has a family to feed like everybody else He takes a breath, pulls the trigger, and whispers, “farewell”
When the last rhino dies will we finally learn The price of one broken horn?
Somewhere in Hanoi, partygoers laugh and drink champagne Admiring the rhino horn that is on display The politician toasts this gift from Zimbabwe A businessman’s bribe for a favor someday
When the last rhino dies will we finally learn The price of one broken horn?
Meanwhile in America I watch videos about rhino poachers I feel morally superior to these foreign butchers So I spark my bowl of cannabis harvested by cartels I exhale and decide it's time to watch something else
When the last rhino dies will we finally learn The price of one broken horn?
What a powerful song . This is top class writing and playing. A sad topic but will we learn?
