Liner Notes

I saw this skirmish prompt from @wylddandelyon last night and really liked it, but took longer than the hour to come up with something workable. We had a thunderstorm roll through before the fireworks (both official and not) started, and where I live I can hear a lot more of those than I can actually see. I could see some fireflies out enjoying the newly wet grass though, so things flowed from there.

Octave mandolin, recorded on my phone.

Lyrics

Chorus: There’s fireflies in the garden And fireworks in July Their petals blaze, then fade away Like flowers in the sky

You gave to me a yellow rose I tended it with care But when the winter came around Its branches they were bare

(Chorus)

Creatures of light out in the yard Come round this time each year But if we don’t take care, one day We will not see them here

(Chorus)

Thunder and rain surround us now explosions in the night But when the storm has gone away we make our own new light

(Chorus)
