The Love That Makes The World Go 'Round

Liner Notes

Yesterday I started reading the book "The Serviceberry: Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World" by Robin Wall Kimmerer, and the book opens by describing this beautiful scene of the author and the wild birds all enjoying an abundance of delicious juicy berries from a serviceberry tree planted by her neighbors. She talks about how the berries are essentially a gift, offered unconditionally to anyone who may want it, and how even though the tree may not be repaid directly for its generosity, that gift has ripple effects that ultimately bring more abundance to the world around it, which is a collective win for everyone involved. And I found that all quite moving! So I did my best to capture the spirit of her message in song.

Lyrics

[Verse] In the coolness of the evening Found a serviceberry tree With a more-than-generous harvest Offered for the birds and me

Got a basket full of berries That by no means had I earned And the tree keeps giving freely Asking nothing in return

[Prechorus] I could keep these to myself, afraid they'll disappear But why let the blessing stop here?

[Chorus] Keep it moving (Keep it moving!) Pass it down (Pass it down!) The love that makes the world go 'round, 'round, 'round The love that makes the world go 'round

[Post-chorus] ('round, 'round, 'round, 'round, 'round, 'round, 'round)

[Verse] So I gave some to my neighbor And she baked a berry pie Then she shared some extra slices With the family just nearby

And when the family grew some veggies, then They gave them out for free So the lady down the road helped them To plant a serviceberry tree

Oh, keep it moving (Keep it moving!) Pass it down (Pass it down!) The love that makes the world go 'round, 'round, 'round The love that makes the world go 'round and 'round The love that makes the world go 'round

[Post-chorus] ('round, 'round, 'round, 'round, 'round, 'round, 'round)

Lovely song Cola. The harmonies, naturally on point. Melody, fantastic. Great lyrics AND tambourine action! Love it. The backing vocals really hit nice and elevate this further. The little woo at the end is a nice touch.
