Liner Notes

Unexpected challenge and I am working on some song currently. A tale of exotic travel, pretty simple acoustic led song, Probably a dominant theme for this challenge

Lyrics

[Verse 1] Down where the sunset, paints copper on the shoreline wall We left our coded hieroglyphs for nobody at all Under silver constellations and a smuggler’s moonlit chart The local boys were taking lessons about the confidence of art There was a room above the harbour near the Ramblas after dark Where the Catalan bartenders knew the names behind the marks They pulled us from a sinking freighter far from the shipping lane Saved us for the final tally, washed us clean, alive again

[Chorus] By the seawall in the rainfall Every drop rewrites the scene All the years come rolling shoreward Dragging up what slipped between And I’d like to make a punchline Of the schemes that got me caught But there’s a watermark remaining From all the damage that they brought

[Verse 2] The midnight express leans hard into the curve Like a gambler chasing numbers testing his own nerve Abandoned coaches broke away and disappeared Scattering their futures through the weeds and shattered piers The whole world can fit inside a glass of Rioja and regret As the saints above the boulevard made jokes we won’t forget Nasty little cherubs said, with counterfeit delight “Looks like your little saviour finally missed his flight”

[Chorus] By the seawall in the rainfall Every drop rewrites the scene All the years come rolling shoreward Dragging up what slipped between And I’d like to make a punchline Of the schemes that got me caught But there’s a watermark remaining From all the damage that they brought

[Outro] Tell me, darling— What is this thing you wrote Is heaven just a vessel Keeping memory afloat?
