Liner Notes

A song written on an acoustic guitar.

A song about noticing something wrong that is there, close by and realising it's you, and it's the voice that has been leading you astray for many years. It's not a voice that will go away, but now that you know it's there, you can choose to ignore it.

For years, that voice led me to reactions and places that lost me jobs and friends.

The structure is a bit unusual as it ends on what is usually a bridge.

You can hear the guitar (real and double-tracked) through the track running along with the synths and beats. The vocalist is a vocal swap for my original vocals (AI used for production only, the original melody I sang is intact).

Lyrics

[Verse 1] To keep things simple, We chose all that we hear, We hide in the crowd, Until I noticed, The sound was somewhere near, Too bleak and loud,

[Chorus] Do you remember? The music felt too clean, Let it fade away, Do you remember? The tempo never strays, No closing phrase.

[Verse 2] And I was thinking, All the times that I failed, I was always there, Now the floor is sinking, My double is unveiled. Knots in her hair,

[Chorus] Do you remember? The music felt too clean, Let it fade away, Do you remember? The tempo never strays, No closing phrase.

[Closing Phrase] My internal monologue, Was the villain of the game, I followed every word it wrote, Other players were not to blame,

My broken past filled each page, Now bitterness and lonely rage, Have been removed from the stage.
