#postrock

This is the second time on FAWM that Roope Puumalainen sends me a full drum track and I really have no idea what he had in store for me. We had a chat that this time around we could slow it down and make a postrock song.

I wanted to compose in a new way, so I composed a full bass track without any idea what I'm going to layer over it or what is coming next. I had the basic structure on paper and composed one part at a time, from start to beginning. Then a did the guitar melodies and same for the other guitars and synth.

Not the most cohesive track but I think it came out quite well. One of my rules was that I didn't want to backtrack too much and if I played a note I didn't like later on, I had to deal with it somehow with layering. This was also the first time I didn't absolutely hate mixing real drums.

MIxing real drums is tricky but absolutely worth it. They have an absolutely different energy. You did so well with the harmonies and bass. Sounds like a post rock journey

Great instrumental track. I could enjoy the melodies a bit further in the front but the different guitars are so clever and powerful. Well done. 🙏

This is up my alley! My only critique is that the slow part at 2:29 was not sonically distinctive enough. I would have left out the distorted rhythm guitars there and have only the clean guitars and synth, bass and drums. Well, maybe a lead guitar part too :-)
