Long Shot

Liner Notes
Another quick song. Misery pop is my wheelhouse. I’ve added the lyrics below so you can ponder what the f@ck I’m on about, should the mood take you.
Lyrics
Exiled, unreconciled This is where I find myself today In-between the pages of a book I’ll never read
And it hurts you when they say ‘What does it matter anyway - What does it mean In the scheme of things?’
I can’t ignore What I feel I must explore Berate me Slate me You will never Sedate me
Just for a moment Everyone fell silent Everything was crystal clear Crystal clear - and I was hopeful Just for a moment Just for a moment
Well, it’s a Long shot Forget-me-not Forgive me girl But somethings not… Quite right
And it hurts you …
I can’t ignore …
Well, it’s a long shot …
I can’t ignore …

The guitar is an app called Santa Ana which is one of the Korg Gadget instruments. Here I’m using it within the excellent but sadly now defunct Nanostudio 2. The structure of the song isn’t quite right and you can’t make out what I’m singing in places especially the chorus. I’ve added the lyrics now!
Great vocals and driving bass! very 80s obvs which is perfect in my book. Nothing brightens my day more than Misery-Pop haha. Excellent song!
I do visit 2026 occasionally but prefer to live in 1984. Thank god for time portals, eh?
I love the term "misery pop" - this sound brings me back. Some nice layers, overlapping, but always leaving room for the vocal. The beat just grinds you up.
Misery pop! 80s goth pop! Psychedelic furs vibes. Love the textures that come crashing in in the chorus and your voice is perfect for it, definitely your wheelhouse. Love this
Great start with those "Twin Peaks theme"-like bass notes and what sounds like real guitars (is it?). The descending chord progression has a certain kind of open-ended drama to it, that you match very well with the lyric and added instrumentation. The heavy percussion blasts that come in around 2 mins are really cool and effective. And the berate/slate/sedate chorus has an odd catchiness to it, love it! You're a master of that wheelhouse.
