Slow-Moving Trauma
Liner Notes
Just one take - no overdubs...simple...guitar and vocal
Lyrics
Slow-Moving Trauma Slow-Moving Trauma The weight of a trillion grains of sand Laid in your hand is Slow-Moving Trauma The blood from a million tiny cuts throughout the years Whispers in your ear The Slow-Moving Trauma The Slow-Moving Trauma The wounds that no one ever sees Still bring you to your knees It's the Slow-Moving Trauma Slow-Moving Trauma It's still trauma to me

People usually associate trauma with an traumatic event, but tiny fractures over a lifetime can also be crippling and hard to explain. Thanks!
Who'd ever think a song with this title would be a singalong... but I find myself harmonizing on the slow-moving trauma lines..
Ooh, I like hearing you like this. It's a beautiful meditation, lyrically and musically. Acknowledging the pain of being a human being. The lyric phrasing and return to the instantly comforting singalong hook of a title phase all work really well. In a bigger demo, I could hear layered vocal production with swirling sounds droning behind your steadfast guitar -- like Iron & Wine or Elliot Smith covering "Across the Universe"
Thanks! Yeah, in my head, I hear a lot more going on and a longer song in general, but I just wanted to do a one take, because I tend to get in the weeds with putting things together and I had precious little time. I very well may revisit this. I love Rufus Wainwright's version of Across the Universe, which may be what you're referencing. ;)
That long held note on the word slow really emulates the slow moving trauma. This is beautiful in its melancholic simplicity. It sure says a lot with so few words needed to get the point across.
Thank you so much! I think more people can relate than anyone knows.
Tone of this perfectly aligns with the lyrics. "Slooooooooooooow" sung just how it ought to be. I was a bit worried about what I'd learn from listening to a song of this title but you don't "go there." Probably for the best haha. But, "The blood from a million tiny cuts throught the years." Aiy, still tells enough.
