Shepard's Warning

Liner Notes
This started by wanting to write something King Crimson-y, then ended up in this space very similar to the Bruford Levin Upper Extremities track "Cerulean Sea" (a personal favourite of mine). I then found I was really enjoying the tension of the chromatic runs up and down, and wanted to take that to the next level...so underlying this entire track is also the infamous Shepard's Tone. In fact, there's two tones: one going upwards at one rate and one going down at a different rate.

I could solo on this chord progression forever, but I think it gets the point across at 3:30ish.
This has great tension built into it. I love how the drums sort of highlight the beats you aren't quite expecting to hit. It gives this cool off-balance feel. The rhythm guitar part kind of keeps the beat and gives the structure. As a listener it feels like I'm trying find my footing, but on the verge of falling for all 3:23. Love the shreddy guitar parts on top of this. Really cool stuff.
