#acousticonetake #tour

Greetings from Effingham, Illinois. The first three dates of this tour were great. Now, a couple of days to chill before the next run of shows in OH, MI, IN, and IL.

The previous three days entailed a lot of driving and socializing and ended with inconsistent sleep. After Sunday's show, I got a good night's sleep. Now, for a while anyway, I have a space all to myself.

Carpe diem? Where's my pen?

Lyrics

Sometimes Everything I do and say rhymes with everything I do Next day No matter what I do or say it don't amount to nothin'

1 - You can put your best foot forward and end up with a foot in your mouth It's all on you What you gonna do when you get that big foot out

2 - Step right up to the plate, Take a practice swing Swingin' for the fences Then you hear strike three Oh no, can it be? Did you practice your cliches for the post-game, baby?

3 - Sometimes all you got is a long shot Which you know is better than no shot at all Sometimes at the dance You get a second glance Sometimes all you get is the one chance

A most pleasant listen - great vocals and staccato acoustic guitar. Definitely worth a second listen as well as a second glance. I've played in Peoria, Chicago and at the late, lamented Elandorf Music Festival in Lowpoint (outside Metamora), but never in Effingham! Hope the gig went well.

A love song to internal rhymes. Clever lingering turns of phrase as voice leading, a little wink-and-a-drawl in melody and verse The joy that sneaks out of the little laugh in the last chorus is perfect.

The groove of this one feels fun even if you're not paying attention to the words, all the more reward then when you are. Easy-going crowd pleaser in a live set, if not an instant hit, but I think it's one your songwriting peers are all going to be envious of. By them, I mean me.

Ha! Love you, Phil.

I wrote this in Effingham and had a chance to play it (fresh meat!) for a friend right after I wrote it. He offered that I might consider changing the music up for one of the sections -- maybe it would be a bridge -- just to shake things up a little bit. Maybe I'll let the editor have a go at it later on.
