stayed up too late finishing this. i have an early meeting. goodnight!!!
written in around 10 hours for fawm 2026. this song, and all of the others in this series, will likely get edited and re-uploaded as i come back and work on them. if you like the current version, download it, because it's probably going to get worked on and replaced. i might host a version history eventually. add that to the list of things that would make soundcloud a way sicker platform.
if you'd like to participate, even informally, hit me up :)
for references, i don't have much that's specific. this one pulls from a ton of my favorite horror ambience from various video games; silent hill, OoT, fear & hunger are probably the main ones off the top of my head. listening to the labyrinth of the demon king OST helped get me unstuck once or twice.

for the ambient ones like this one, I tend to take a lot of my longer sound design sessions and overlay them on top of another and listen for cool moments. usually i'll get an idea from this for some larger story i want to tell. for this one, something I was listening to reminded me of how the brothers in Ice Pick Lodge's early game, The Void, are introduced:
that gave me the idea of something ceremonial, and like trying to stay hidden in this large, dark, open space while some sort of menace (like one of the brothers) rolls through; eventually attracting attention, etc. a lot of my ideas tend to come from video games/OSTs, and most of my sound design stuff comes from hanging around the soundcloud neuro/idm scene for a long time.
gave me an odd sense of "falling down steps" around the minute mark, driven home by the weighty sub drones. the cool hovering outro resonated well and was cut into nothingness. how are you putting your tracks together?
