Simon's Cat
Liner Notes
#singersongwriter This song was inspired by my 23-pound orange tabby's recent habit of waking me up in the night for no good reason. The reference to Simon's Cat is all about the viral YouTube video with Simon's cat waking him up with a baseball bat to the head.
Musically, the song was an exercise in using a Beatles progression with new lyrics. See if you can guess the song!
Americano the cat makes an appearance at the end.
Lyrics
In general, you are a gentle giant With orange rings around your tail A little linebacker who's mostly quiet, You’re causing my sleep to fail
Why have you turned into a Simon's Cat? Waking me up with a baseball bat At 3:00 AM, to be exact Oh no, why’s it gotta be like that?
You must have noticed when I was watching Those charming videos Cuz when you walked across the keyboard You jammed in the K and the O
Why have you turned into a Simon's Cat? Waking me up with a baseball bat At 3:00 AM, to be exact Oh no
You're the sweet - est tabby That ever walked the Earth With a few bad habits You need to unlearn
It's cute how you have a favorite spot To sleep at the foot of the bed But my feet always have a problem Finding a spot to rest
Why have you turned into a Simon's Cat? Waking me up with a baseball bat At 3:00 AM, to be exact Oh no, why’s it gotta be Oh no, why’s it gotta be Oh no, why’s it gotta be like that?

Thanks!
That’s one catchy melody you’ve got in the chorus. It’s reminding me of some of my favourite artists like Sufjan Stevens and Weezer.
