Magic in my Arms

Liner Notes
I think I'm addicted to the lyrics that Liz writes. This is my 21st song with her lyrics and our second lullaby. In keeping with this being a lullaby, I used a quiet guitar for the foundation, then a violin countermelody and cello for the bass line. The violin and cello are from the Diamond Orchestra for Kontakt.
On this song, I decided to incorporate contrary motion. In two lines of the verse, the chords go down while the melody goes up. Overall, I'm happy with the result although I'm finding that age is causing some vocal deterioration.
Lyrics
There's magic in the stars There's magic in the moon There's magic in my arms When I am holding you
I hold you close, look in your eyes As I sing this soft lullaby I kiss your head, hold your tiny hand As you drift off to slumberland
There's magic in the stars There's magic in the moon There's magic in my arms When I am holding you
I stroke your hair and hear you sigh As I sing this soft lullaby I put you down in your own safe bed As dreams float in your sweet head
There's magic in the stars There's magic in the moon There's magic in my arms When I am holding you
ooo ooo ooo ooo ooo ooo ooo
There's magic in my heart That holds love here with you

Thanks very much, Val. It's rewarding to receive such supportive comments. If you find someone who's making the movie that needs this song, send him/her my way! My son's had songs on a movie soundtrack, but not me.
Oh this is sweet. Lovely voice to performe a lullaby. Great lyrics as always Liz. Sweet collab.
Thanks so much for giving it a listen. I always feel lucky when I get to work with lyrics from Liz.
Feels close to home. Nice backing track and a beautiful vocal performance by Paul. There's magic in your hearts!
Thanks very much, Matt. I've always had great luck with the lyrics that Liz creates.
You perfectly bring these lyrics to life. Beautiful and slightly sad melody/harmony and your instrumentation is absolutely perfect. One suggestion on the mix: bring down the vocal volume a little and boost the EQ on it between 3-5Khz range and a little bit of reverb. Otherwise, it's absolutely perfect.
Thanks for being an attentive listener. I'll play about with the EQ boost that you suggest. Normally, I use EQ to subtract some of the less-than-ideal overtones. I do use reverb, but try to keep it at the level where it adds to the sound but doesn't draw attention to itself. I used to use much more reverb until I got a talking to by my son who's a trained audio engineer.
I love the strings. What a nice pad for the picked guitar. This is so soft and warm. I'm especially drawn to the ooo ooo. So pretty! But the whole track is very inviting. I feel like it belongs on a soundtrack where the character is singing to their loved one.
