Stolen Sun
Liner Notes
The end of harvest comes with the autumn equinox and celebration of Mabon on the #wheel-of-the-year.
@thob was riffing a bit on his Welsh heritage and researching the story of Mabon ap Modron, meaning "Divine Son of the Divine Mother". He's a central figure in Welsh mythology, famously known for being abducted from his mother, Modron, at only three nights old, later rescued by King Arthur to assist in a hunt.
The crossover of sun / son being stolen away was too good to ignore...
I have deployed my baby #baritone guitar on this (Jazzmaster with very fat strings tuned down standard B tuning)
Lyrics
Half light, Shadows grow,
Half night,
One last breath, We go under,
Thank you.

Yeah man... That's what I'm talkin about. Love that thick bari tone tone.
So soothing. I really love this one
I love how the vocal anticipates the chord changes, and momentarily creates a bit of beautiful harmonic tension.
It's a moody atmospheric take on a change in the seasons, although the chords give it an underlying positive vibe. I especially like the reverbed compressed kick drum/thud/knocking (something like that)... echoes of Vienna by Ultravox. Nice to hear a song kind of about Wales! (My origins are there too)
Thanks! I’d not twigged the Ultravox echoes, but I’ll definitely take that! Lots of fun putting this together, e.g symbolism in the choice of chords (alternating between light / C and dark / Am, Am winning in the end), and glad that you picked up the positive vibe… it’s literally a time of thanksgiving and bounty.
What a beautiful sonic landscape. I love the long lines of the vocals. This just feels like it is stretching out and settling over me like a blanket.
