Wide As the Prairie Skies - Re-harmonization
by @deadhead
Liner Notes
My take on the #fakeit challenge. In this challenge, all participants use the same lead sheet provided by @metalfoot but make up their own song. https://fawm.org/forums/3568
You might notice that the chords are a tiny bit different from the lead sheet. That's cause I'm used to jazz lead sheets. And with jazz lead sheets you ignore all the chords and play your own! But those generally have melodies, so I first wrote a pop song with a melody (you can find it here) and then re-harmonized it to make a jazz version.
Even though the melody is the exact same (or nearly the exact same) it was insanely hard singing it over these chords compared the base version.
Lyrics
[Chorus] It's time to open up my heart Wide as the Prairie [EbMaj7 b9] skies It's time to look at the world With some brand new eyes Too long I've been sitting in the darkness And I've needed the light It's time to open up my heart Wide as the prairie skies
[Verse] I'm turning off the TV news [FV7]I'm shutting down the mobile phone All this doomscrolling's the [DV7/F#]death of me It just makes me feel alone
I'm stepping out the front door I'm going to breathe some fresh air See the good things happening around me It's time I learned to care
[Chorus]
[Verse] I'm going to walk through nature I'll just enjoy it cause its there Appreciate the small things around me Cause there's glory everywhere
I'm going to eat some good food I'm going to learn to be healthy And care for others like I should now Find pleasure in simplicity
[Chorus]
I am jazz illiterate so I noticed nothing about the chords, but really appreciate your excellent keys playing and the cool sound of the chords. Great intro! Love that little ascending run around 1:07. So many tasty runs throughout this song. The melody sounds like it was challenging to hang onto but you did a great job. Cool challenge.
