Cynicism or realism? Either way, hope springs eternal.
Lyrics
If you want good news, you know I got bad news But if you want bad news, I got plenty The glass, it ain’t exactly half full But doesn’t mean that it’s half empty
The first time’s the best time to do the right thing The second best time is always now Forgiveness don’t remove consequence Any more than the rain follows the plow
There aren’t many options left But there’s no need to be bereft
It’s gonna get worse before it gets worse But then it might get better
Cassandra lost her voice up on the rooftop The smoke detector battery is dead All the warning systems were defunded Got the tapestry is hanging by a thread
You can’t fumigate away the dry rot The termites eat the new construction too Long past the point of simple renovation Time to do the things we’ve gotta do
We’re gonna take it on the chin It’s not an if but when
It’s gonna get worse Before it gets worse But then it might get better
It’s gonna get worse Before it gets worse Someday it might get better
If we’re gonna make it through We’ve got a lot of work to do
The "worse before it gets worse" refrain is bleakly hilarious. And as an older of an old, willfully decrepit house, the fumigating & dry rot stanza hits close to home.
I'm a sucker for an acoustic one take. This sounds great - strong, confident, and rhythmic.
