I’ve been reading our old letters Lots of things we wished we didn’t say And the feeling did get better But only when we both took a step away

There are no glory days to go back to We would both run away again As much as it pains me to say it This is the best we’ve ever been

I think we’ve learned from all our outcomes It’s a book of don’t be dumb be smart And if the future is still open Freedom comes when you listen to your heart

I am not saying to start over Now is now and then was then But there must be a way to make it better When this is the best we’ve ever been

It can’t be a fight That wouldn’t be right It’s more like The next breath the next breath the next

The universe started with expansion That’s still the way of everything So let’s try not to make decisions And first see what tomorrow brings

If I tried to write back to that era That’s a message I could never send We can’t argue with what got us here If this is the best we’ve ever been
