If everything's already eternal and been done, then we already saw the end. There's no need to ask if we made it to the end. All that's ahead is eternity.
I don't think this will be the final track of the album but it will be close to the end. I wanted to capture Nine's feelings of confusion over why humanity hasn't overachieved and done great things when they already did that and found out there was only boredom on the other side. Humans want to want to some degree. With no more death or struggle in sight, your only enemy is never ending time.
Went through Helm's SFX library again and was pleasantly surprised to find that wind effect. I'm used to the SFX of Helm to all sound futuristic or 8 bit, so a realistic blowing wind caught me off guard. It was exactly what I was looking for but coming from a themed VST like Helm it was an unexpected find.
I can't believe I'm so close to being done with another FAWM album. I feel like my production of the album flew by so fast. It was a lot of fun to produce a themed album and I'm really thinking this is gonna be a good album once I arrange all my tracks in order and master it. I really should choose to do more concept or fansong albums in general if it makes me this productive again.

It's so funny you mention pings between computers because although that wasn't in my head while composing, there's so much emphasis on Ten trying to establish contact with Nine in the beginning and then having to fill Nine in on...everything that's happened over tens of thousands of years. I'm glad I conveyed that part because I was thinking about the end rather than the beginning being literally going through tons of calendars as time goes by. Symptom of composing right before bedtime.
the chorused square lead is especially lovely here, both sound wise and with the longing melody it plays. the drums are also really nice, the repeating kick makes me imagine a series of network pings between two computers... or something
there definitely is a sense of wonder here, perhaps even confusion like you said
