Skirmish: It All Works Out In The E... (@melodic)Liner Notes
#skirmish #lyrics #rock #alternative Well, it took the full hour just to come up with the lyrics (and kudos to Ms. Raspberry33 for the "Goats in the Road" idea. I'll try to get a backing track to this over the weekend, but it ain't happening tonight.
Lyrics
GOATS ON THE HIGHWAY (It all Works Out in the End) (c) 2026 raspberry33
We left the city with a map and an upbeat tune E E E D,E With complicated plans for tomorrow afternoon E E A G,A Headed for a cabin in Granite State B F#m A week in the country, let’s not be late A E If you plan well, it all works out in the end. G G B B
Verse 2: On a back road built out of promises and rust We rolled down the windows inhaling rural dust Then a farm hand waved, looking absurd As he shouted out “Watch out for my herd!” There’s a chance you may be in for a delay.
Pre-chorus: Up until then, we were making good time A A But just then the road became a steep incline F# F# We rounded the top and then suddenly slowed A A Because a herd of goats were blocking the road F# F# And I do mean blocking – there must have been a hundred) E E E E
Chorus: Life never goes exactly as planned D A E Whether goats on the highway or pleasures banned D A E You might get there a bit later than you planned G D A But look what adventures you might have on the way G A E
V3 We killed the engine, and let the moment breathe, I told myself “this is a very bad time to seethe” The goats don’t care about ferry schedules Just trimming their whiskers and shining their hooves They’ll do their thing, and I’ll just have to do mine.
Bridge: You can learn some truth in a slow-moving show Goats have a rhythm that you might not know Inefficiency can entertain and enlighten, so Remember, it all works out in the end. V4 The goats soon parted and we passed them on the shoulder Down the hill and past an ancient boulder Flat tire by the diner, a kid with a wrench, we traded our stories on a back yard bench. It was a peek into just how the other half lives
CHORUS
Bridge #2: So when your smart phone dies and your checklists break, remember crooked roads and the memories they make. Just slow your engine, roll with the parade, let the goats lead you down the highway they made. We’ll arrive a little older, with stories to let rip, and we’ll know — a lot of detours are better than the trip
Chorus: Life never goes exactly as planned D A E Whether goats on the highway or traps of sand D A E You might get there later than you planned G D A But look what adventures you might have on the way G A E
Outro: 'Cause it all works out in the end Roads that bend will bring you back again. Might get there later than you planned, but look what adventures we’ve had – hand in hand Yeah, it all works out in the end.

Life is full of goats I guess. Sounds like you’ve lived a lot of life. The chords give a little preview.. but the melody is king. Give me a nudge when the demo happens.
Brilliant writing. I'm looking forward to hearing your demo.
I like the message about not swearing over the details. Also a nice effect that the song comes to a stop in the middle, then starts up again, matching the story.
These lyrics are fantastic!!! So beautiful and wise! I just love how you relate this important message inside a lovely story with goats in the road! I started smiling when I read your title and, upon finishing my read, I am still smiling! Thank you for a wonderful moment tonight!
Nice lyrics, my favorite lines are the 'on a back road built of promises and rust' and the whole bridge #2 which really brings it all back home...very nice, this will make a good song and I'm curious to hear it with music
