Slow Burn
Skirmish: Slow Burn (@robinleaf)Liner Notes
My 2nd skirmish of 2026. Thanks for the topic; it was interesting to see what came out :-)
Apologies for the tardy post. Just as I was about to record some loud leaf-blowers appeared in the neighborhood, and I didn't want that noise in the background so I waited for what seemed like forever for them to leave. Any other noise you hear in the background is ongoing nearby construction which never ends.
Lyrics
Slow Burn
Two decades now The flame stays low My heart is hooked As you well know
Across the miles Your phone calls warm Illusions for hours As you show your charm
One way love The burn is real Slowly burning up my heart
You laugh I cry Do you cry too? You're longing for someone While I long for you
One way love The burn is real Slowly burning up my heart

Thanks for listening
It truly was my pleasure.
Oh this is so full of longing and desire …. The one way love is so hard an this gentle song expresses it so well…
Thank you. What was amazing to me in this skirmish is that I set 2 sequential timers: 15 minutes to write the lyrics at my kitchen table (it took 16 minutes) and 15 minutes to come up with a draft of the music at the piano (I finished in 13 minutes, under time!). Never would have imagined that would be possible time-wise!
This song really got me in the feels. I almost cried towards the end, especially the "longing for someone, while I long for you" line. Unrequited love hits home, and I really like the song. Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you, though I'm sorry that you felt the pain. If only there were a cure for unrequited love. (Hmmm, that might make for a good song, eh?)
What a lovely, affecting song. The vulnerability in your voice and this simple almost hymn-like melody work great together. Love "one way love", "illusions for hours", the burn is real. And the "Two decades now" opening really hit me after I heard and understood the song. Great skirmish!
Thank you. Though the vulnerability sound might be due to trying to stretch my limited less-than-an-octave vocal range :-) This was a great skirmish, I was wowed what everyone came up with!
Heartbreak. So fragile and authentic. Beautiful
