Chains (Bars 2)

Liner Notes
Hi! Second song in the Bars Trilogy! (The first song is the track "Bars (Mick & Me)" also on this year's FAWM.) This one is about the bars that imprison us. IMO the most interesting chains are the ones we put on ourselves: our fears, beliefs, impulsive reactions to parents, society and the wishes of others. Those are the chains I struggle against. Trying to find my true self (Good Luck!) and free myself from desires and prejudices. Because its a prison song I did a bluesy thing (I love blues and soul.) #trilogy #bluesy #acousticonetake
Lyrics
Judge gave me 2 years less a day But I been in chains since I was born Did everything everybody asked of me. But I’m still gonna die alone
(At Tempo) You know she had me all tied in knots I guess I only got myself to blame Did all I could to stand up straight Here I’m lying in these chains
Some prisons made of steel and stone Others from a lovers arms I built this cage on my own No one else ever did me harm
Pushing, pulling, crying out loud Doing everything I can to get loose Chained myself to these rocks I never even had a chance
Break
Standing at the crossroads looking up ahead Trying to decide which way to go I knew the straight path was the way Because the devil told me so
Sometimes it’s the Devil leads you astray Sometimes its your best friend Whether your true or you lose your way We’re all gonna meet the same end
Pushing, pulling, crying out loud Doing everything I can to get loose Chained myself to these rocks I never even had a chance
(Vocal only) Judge gave me 2 years less a day But I been in chains since I was born But no jailer ever shackled me I did it all on my own

Nice track! Coming from Chicago here and love to see people still playing the blues 🙏

Great singing and playing. Made me think of Doc Watson when he would dip into blues-ier stuff. A really great listen!
The opening, that guitar run and then almost like a field shout, that all works so well.
The spare arrangement really works, like it did for a thousand-and-one blues players before us. Lovely ending at the slower tempo like the beginning.
Your voice really works for the genre. Totally nailed this. Nicely done.
What a great prisoner blues. Dude your guitar playing is nice, with all these runs and dynamics. Your voice works so well in this genre
