linear

it's amusing the hoops we will jump through to hold on to something that kills us. well maybe amuse is the wrong word here.

notes

trying to heavily lean into the untrustworthy narrator, and the opening line hopefully goes hard for that cause (and a repeat on the end of the bridge). the song originally started as something different (undiagnosed as being bad or something like that) but the negative aspects of the story were all firmly being caused by alcohol.

Man, the whole lying to ourselves more than others (or as well?) probably hits us all to some degree or other. Especially when it comes to drinking and the like. After dealing with too many episodes of dealing with people who blame anyone and everything other than themselves for anything and everything happening around them, maybe this hits a bit harder than I'd like. But it's a testament that it's strong enough to do so.

I think the cement is quite wet on this one - you played it just now in our song circle and is already sounding like you are getting comfortable with your melody and it is coming out clearer and clearer. Definitely one to work on and polish. "Lush" is a great word - it kind of feels so positive, rich - like a lush garden - but of course in this song it is something much worse. I didnt get the meaning at all in song circle but now I have the context it hit deeper! Well done!

Nailed the unreliable narrator. I loved hearing this in the @unknownbecky song circle today. An effective character sketch that reminds me of some I knew back in my drinking days. The delivery is perfect for the feeling. Excellent contrasts between 'I'm fine' and all the descriptions.
