Day 12 - Bastille Day (14 July)

I was telling Ambroise my grand 'concept' for this FAWM, and he liked it, writing some words that would fit the theme. I went off and demoed this track, he sang on it, you know, how a collab works. I like the finished product muchly.

Ambroise words, J$ - music

Ambroise - vocal J$ - ukulele, casio VLtone 1, bass, backing vocals

Track uses ‘Fireworks on the Eiffel Tower’ (taken from freesound, org, originally recorded by user KevP888

Lyrics

English Translation below (though you shouldn’t really need it 🙂)

En 1789 Fleur de cocarde, son du canon Les sans culottes d’un élan neuf Assaillirent une prison

C’est le symbole par excellence De la liberté retrouvé D’une oppression en défaillance Et d’un peuple à maturité

This is ‘Burn Down A Prison’ Day Democracy has been locked away Get out those torches, celebrate By burning down a prison today

Depuis c’est fête nationnale Tous les 14 de juillet Mais les pyrotechnies cach’nt mal Qu’ les prison ont proliférés

En France à l'international On y enferme les victimes d’exclusion de trouble mental Ou du racisme du régime

This is Burn Down A Prison Day Democracy has been locked away Get out those torches, celebrate By Burning Down A Prison today

(Fireworks solo)

Alors exproprions la date Au nom d’l’universalité Que les murs des prisons s’abattent Et pas seul’ment pour les français

This is Burn Down A Prison Day Democracy has been locked away Get out those torches, celebrate By Burning Down A Prison today x2

Just make sure everyone’s let out first …

In 1789 Cockade flowers, cannon fire The sans-culottes, with renewed vigor Stormed a prison

It is the ultimate symbol Of freedom regained Of oppression failing And a people coming of age

CHORUS

Since then, it has been a national holiday Every July 14th But the fireworks hide the fact That prisons have proliferated

In France and internationally Victims are locked up For exclusion, mental illness Or racism by the regime

CHORUS

So let's expropriate the date In the name of universality Let the prison walls come down And not just for the French

CHORUS x2

Vive la revolution! Or something? is that apppropriate? I hope so. And congrats on a song with such a catchy chorus!

Excellent collaboration and a good listen. Thanks to some free translation software, I feel quite informed about all aspects of the lyrics. Quite a sing-a-long song you have here. Good work!
