She Didn't Ask to be a Hero

Liner Notes
This was an idea I had years ago...I may have even posted an earlier version of the chorus without any verses.
The first verse is nearly complete, the second needs some work...the idea is there, but I haven't quite worked out all the details.
Rand and I talked about this a bit yesterday, trying to determine what I'm thinking for the tune. Not melody, but tempo, tone, etc. Best I've been able to offer is "kind of melancholy, but hopeful?"
Again, I'm not looking for collabs, but if you have any general thoughts about what you imagine this might sound like in terms of vibes, I'd be happy to hear them!
Lyrics
She was hoping to start over A whole new town, a whole new life But her fate would always find her [I think this needs another line] And when the monsters came at night Her friends stood by her side And together they would save the world, a lot
She didn’t ask to be a hero She didn’t want to save the world But she couldn’t turn away She stayed to fight another day She’ll keep keeping on no matter what the cost She didn’t ask to be a hero
She was just a girl from nowhere Who learned how to hunt and [something] [volunteered as tribute to save her sister] [and probably another line here] She thought for sure she’d meet her end But (fate?) had other plans And the Mockingjay rose up to [do something]
She didn’t ask to be a hero She didn’t want to change the world But she couldn’t run away She stayed to fight another day She’ll keep holding on no matter what the cost She didn’t ask to be a hero
Bridge (probably not quite finished):
They were ordinary people in extraordinary times Standing up for hope and freedom Becoming beacons in the night
Verse 3: not finished yet, needs to be about real life examples.
I didn’t ask to be a hero You weren’t trying to save the world But we couldn’t turn away We’ll live to fight another day We’ll keep [something] on no matter what the cost Nobody(?) asked to be your hero (I am not sure what to do with that last line)

Ooh, interesting…I don’t think I would have thought of Pat Benatar, so thanks!
You've got some really good stuff here! I love the chorus and it's focus on stepping on even if you don't necessarily want to. I love a good filk song that takes a story and applies it's morals to modern day issues.
I'm getting Pat Benatar vibes from this. Kind of a mix between Hell is For Children and Running With the Shadows in the Night. A Katniss song feels very apropos right now, for sure and I love the idea of blending real life examples with her story.
