Counting change and getting old

I really did wake up today, and I had been dreaming that I was sleeping, and it was the most amazing feeling. I thought, it's like double sleeping. Then the rest of the song pretty much wrote itself. It's cold, it's winter, most of my work is done outside, and it's going to snow again. Enough said. I'm not quite so down in the dumps as in t his song, but somehow writing it out made me feel better :) And writing songs, that's a bit like chasing rainbows, isn't it?
Lyrics
I woke up I was dreaming I was sleeping and I wanted to go back because I was still tired I walked down into the kitchen saw the pile of upaid bills, and I tried tried to be the person I know is inside somewhere Please Lord keep me believing … at least give me a prayer
day after day I go chasing rainbows I haven’t had much luck with it haven’t found any gold i just wake up every morning and see where the day goes drinking coffee, counting change, and getting old.
I could blame a hundred things that have gone wrong but I know that, all of it starts and ends with me there’s the shame in letting everybody down all I can tell them is I’ve tried. tried to be the person I know is inside somewhere Please Lord keep me believing …at least give me a prayer
day after day I go chasing rainbows I haven’t had much luck with it haven’t found any gold i just wake up every morning and see where the day goes drinking coffee, counting change, and getting old.

i get that feeling a lot these days. recently i fell asleep without knowing i had fallen asleep and waking from a dream without knowing i was sleeping. now onto your song....these are morning ruminations that sometimes inspire one to make something of the day. having such thoughts at night, however, can keep you awake. as a title, i would be more attracted to the song were the title comprised of the complete line drinking coffee, counting change, and getting old. it doesnt make as much sense when you leave out the coffee.
I have used simple mandolin chord strumming in many of my songs, but I don't hear it often. It's a gently insistent sound, used nicely hear.
I appreciate the visual image of the coffee, the coins, and the often frightening experience of aging in a world where that's not encourage. Nicely done.
What a lovely voice! I love the idea of dreaming of sleep. How tired do you have to be for that? And what a cool universal feeling your present.
