A couple of things:

  1. I bought a used mountain dulcimer a few weeks ago and promised myself (and the seller) that I'd try to write a song for FAWM with it.
  2. While not a newbie to the dulcimer, it's been a while🙄
  3. The lyrics are from a lovely poem of the same name by Rose Milligan (first published in The Lady magazine in 1998), which, after doing due diligence re: copyright, I found on many poetry sites that it's "believed to be in the public domain." If it actually isn't, no copyright infringement is intended. I did add a few words and changed the order of a couple of lines to fit in better with the music, but the main poem remains intact. You can find it online.

My FAWM has turned out a little differently than I imagined at the beginning of the month. Mainly due to a busy calendar, and low motivation, which is odd for me. I will be quite happy and satisfied to maybe get one or two more songs in after this, but plan to do as much listening and commenting as possible!

Lyrics

Dust if you must, but wouldn't it be better To bake a cake or plant a seed? To paint a picture or even write a letter Or ponder the difference between want and need

Dust if you must, but there's not much time With rivers to swim and mountains to climb Music to hear and countless books to read Friends to cherish and a life to lead

Dust if you must, but the whole world is out there A flutter of snow, a shower of rain Or the sun in your eyes and the wind in your hair This day will not come around again

Dust if you must, but please bear in mind Old age will come, and it won't be kind And when you go - as everyone must - You, yourself, will become just a pile of dust!

It is a nice poem. Sounds darned good dulcimer to me. Lovely clean clear delivery with that sweet picking at the back.

I love the sentiment of this - we spend too much time doing stuff that gets in the way of- I love the musical intro - more dulcimer please - great punchline - really liked this
