A title popped into my head called "Picnic in the Pickup."

Of COURSE it's a country song.

I tried to write it.

I wound up writing this instead.

Daddy didn't teach me how to dance To talk about the birds, the bees, or romance My momma must've hoped I'd never know If she knew anything, she never told me so Everything I learned of love, I discovered on my own 'Least that's the way it felt growing up Maybe it was exactly what they planned When they handed me the keys to that truck

Sally was the prettiest girl I'd ever seen It always made me nervous, the way she smiled at me It always made me want to run and hide The easy way she'd say hello left me tongue tied One day after school, in the parking lot She kissed me on the cheek and I blushed I never will forget the way she touched my hand When she asked me for a ride home in that truck

We were younger and all that summer Holding hands and laughing was enough But the wheels were turnin' and we were learnin' Driving down a dirt road with the radio turned up

Sally is my one and only one She gave me her heart and the keys to the kingdom Now we have a family of our own And our oldest boy is nearly grown Nowadays with the Internet these kids know everything My daddy laughs at me and wishes me good luck My parents taught me plenty about love and trust When they handed me the keys to that truck

All you can do is love, all you can do is trust When you're handing them the keys to that truck
