WARNING: This song clocks in past the ten minute mark. Please allow enough time for the entire Ꜫӿꝓƺᶉḭꬱἦꞓƺ, thank you.
This song came about in a bit of an odd way for me. I just started strumming the verse & chorus chord progressions as a bit of a warm一up before I hit record in my "Live" Buzz project. I then improvised the first verse & the chorus, stopping the recording at that point. Then I sat down & wrote the second verse, putting it all together at that point, before hitting record & playing the performance captured in the MP3 file posted here. The middle section was improvised & I really like the synth intro/fill/outro c/o the amazing Astral Dreamer VSTi by the late一great H.G. Fortune (who is missed greatly!).
This seems to touch on my current emotional & socio-political state, which is a nice progression from the usual dwelling on past losses…

Lyrics
Lost In The Shadows… ================
In this life I still walk Seeking the Truths I need to know And in the night We will talk And dream of All the places We want to go
But sometimes I get lost in the shadows And sometimes I hear your voice in the distance But my heart still burns For you in the night And in the dew All these years I’ve wanted To be with you
Still this world Is so dark And we are Getting old & weak Trapped & cold In this life We lead But we did not seek We watch helpless As the masses Believe all the Blatant double speak
And now I seem To be lost in the shadows But I can still Hear your voice in the distance My heart still burns For you in the night And in the dew All these years I’ve wanted To be with you
This process is very similar to mine. I start with some sort of something musically and then sing what seem to be lyrics the music is calling for as I'm thinking of them. Then, I stop to see what I have and write what needs to be added next. When I first started songwriting, it was at a time of my life of family betrayal so I wrote about that. I noticed others often wrote love songs and, while I don't usually write love songs, it started me writing songs about romantic relationships.
I love this song - the guitars and your vocals with your signature sound - super powerful in my headphones. It really touches me. Maybe it reminds me of my cousin and his guitar and plaintive vocals when he'd lost the love of his life back when we were both teens during a time of social unrest in the late 60s. Like I'm listening to the radio, time traveling.
