Going to the Ball

Liner Notes
This song, like most of my songs, is about being transgender. It really wasn't meant to be -- sometimes the metaphor just gets away from you.

No shelved lines were used in the writing of this song! Unless of course you count the Lenin quote?
Melodies and chords derived almost entirely from: "Commandante", The Mountain Goats "Up The Wolves", The Mountain Goats
Lyrics
There's gonna be days when you keep all your photos And years when they go to the trash And sometimes it's decades of nothing Then the weeks come fast
One day it'll always have been easy You'll swing like a needle pulling north Purpose and direction and all the sweetest things Like water from a leak will spatter forth
[Ch] So I'll wait for one good night And a shoe that fits just right I'll burn like a meteor through the room All eyes on my blazing carriage So never mind the bell Or the dissipating ozone smell I'm coming around On the concept of marriage
I know how this body moves, I can use it like a knife Every driver on this three lane highway Better stay out of my way tonight
I'm gonna spin this plasma dress around me I'm gonna sear it on the back of your eyes I got a day's head start on the investigation And a newly vested interest in staying alive
[Ch]
Loving the meteor metaphor here, and the humorous notes that set if off: "never mind the bell or the dissipating ozone smell" is such an excellent couplet! Really cool song.
