Prayers to Broken Stones

Liner Notes
@sapient inspired me to try DADGAD tuning, and it turned out to be really fun. I'd also been wanting to whistle on a track, and this seemed like the right fit.
After playing around with some chords I was playing around with themes of desolation, and the title popped into my head. I vaguely thought it was a line from Yeats "The Second Coming," but apparently it's just the title of a book of short stories by Dan Simmons (which I read years ago). Anyway, the lyrics are just building off of the title. It could probably use another verse to round out the story, but I kind of like keeping it short and sweet.
Lyrics
Each step leads to ruins Cracked and broken rut Penny for our sins Nowhere left to run
Saw it come Heard it grow Now we leave
Prayers to broken stones
Our sky we left In tatters A burning cloak of ash Only shade a thorn tree Beaches turned to glass
Helpless now Nothing left Just our bones and
Prayers to broken stones Prayers to broken stones

You know, I'm not all that familiar with SOAD, but I think it's reminiscent of the verse from Aerials, and maybe they use lower fourths harmonies sometimes?
I love the whistling and powerful storytelling. I particularly like the melody on: Cracked and broken rut 😊
Interesting and arresting guitar pattern gives a dark Americana feel. Nice harmony on vocals too. Good one!
Your whistling is sooo good. Why does the chorus give me some SOAD vibes?!
