Someone did a skirmish on "sliding" a few days ago. I only had time to write down the prompt. Today I spend more than one hour on this....
Lyrics
V1 I was climbing slow and steady Every step a quiet win Till the earth gave way beneath me And I’m right back where I’ve been, Right back there
Chorus I’m slipping, sliding, Back to the start again Can’t take a single step, without the ground giving in The progress, made, was lost in my descent Just like a landslide, it hit me in the head Now I’m sliding, sliding, Back to the start again
V2 From below the hill looks higher Than it ever did before Now the top is fogged in silver I can’t see it anymore, Can’t see it
Chorus
V3 Every footstep feels uncertain Every breath a little thin But I’m staring up regardless Wish I knew how to begin, how to begin
Chorus
Bridge Maybe losing ground is part of climbing Maybe falling back still counts as trying Maybe all the shifting winding paths Will make more sense when I look back
Chorus - end

I really like your melody and arrangement. The baritone uke goes well with your voice and the shaker and tambourine rhythm section added nicely to the song, too.
Nice songwriting, lyrically and composition-wise. Nice conceit, really like this!
