Ships in the Night

Liner Notes
This was started last month when my partner was in a songwriting class with this as a theme (skirmish material maybe???). Anyway, I had a stab at a verse and chorus, and just discovered this tonight, dusted it down, added another two verses and an outro.
Lyrics
Dear true love I saw you tonight on the train Rushing through the dark and the rain You were reading sweet and slow The Gulag Archipelago
You glanced up, our eyes met You looked down to instantly forget Under the flourescent lights We were ships passing in the night
Chorus: Just ships in the night sailing by Running lights against the sky Through our days and nights we glide Doing our best not to collide
Dear true love I saw you this evening in the park Jogging alone through gathering dark As I walked the dog, you ran by With sudden panic in your eye
You didn't know me, my true love Didn't feel love's flutt'ring dove Only saw a dog and stranger Only felt a nameless danger
Chorus: Just ships in the night sailing by Running lights against the sky Through our days and nights we glide Doing our best not to collide
Dear true love This time I really thought we'd meet In that little café on the Fleet Rushing river, empty chair You stared into the noisy air
But then another came and sat And my hopes came crashing flat Your kisses floated over water I looked away, cheeks growing hotter
Chorus: Just ships in the night sailing by Running lights against the sky Through our days and nights we glide Doing our best not to collide
Outro: I know that you are out there in the night I'm watching for your running lights
