Defensive Distance

Liner Notes
Well. Apparently February is when my relationships get dramatic.
This time, paired with a 4 day fencing retreat, which was a great distraction from reality and also FAWM.
So….defensive distance is the concept of retreating out of range, enough to prevent a strike from occurring. Which is great, from a survival perspective, but not great for communication, which is the metaphor to chew on for today.
Lyrics
Too far away for risk But close enough to choose A careful shift of balance With everything to lose
Exchanges worth exchanging Can’t occur beyond this reach But sharply landed consequence Is a lesson it might teach
Too far is comfortable, a barrier, a wall But too far can hardly be called a dance at all Too close is cutting, an opening, a wound, A chance of harm that’s landing far too soon
So we sit, defensive A distance undefined Waiting for an opening An honest, direct line
Tension keeps on mounting Without a path to clear Trying to gain advantage And hide the growing fear
Too far is comfortable, a barrier, a wall But too far can hardly be called a dance at all Too close is cutting, an opening, a wound, A chance of harm that’s landing far too soon
One small step, That might do it Give me the chance to get on line One brief reach Quick connection Something real for me to find Or is it just A chance for you to Dive from orbit to the core Of every step I’ve ever taken Just to walk away once more And leave me here Raw and open Blooming hurt from target’s aim Dancing over Feet forgotten Left with nothing but my name

That sounds great, have at!
Posted it. I'm not sure if you wanted to repeat the 2nd verse. I only played it once. I paraphrased your lyrics, in a few places, so I could fit the slow 3/4 meter. With some more practice, I could probably fit your original lyrics.
I have an idea for music. Collaborate?
